Eid Lunch - Day 1
We are blessed once again with Eid-ul-Fitr today, and here's my wishing to you "Eid Mubarak".

The first Eid that I ever celebrated in India was at my in-laws place and that was six years back. Eid back home involves lots and lots of preparations specially the sweets and desserts as you will have friends and relatives visiting you throughout the three days of the festival. I still remember the amount of gulab jamuns that we had prepared that I felt dizzy seeing them. In my native, sheer khurma is not prepared, instead qimami sewaiyan is prepared in bulk and its really yummy. Apart from that chane ki daal ka halwa is very famous and must have for Eid. Also, shahi tukda/double ka meetha and rasmalai are not left out, some prepare suji ka halwa as well. We had guest throughout and the whole time we were just serving them and then doing the dishes. Eid was really hectic for me and I did not go out anywhere. For lunch the special menu was chicken qorma with naan and ghee rice.

Eid Lunch - Day 2
After that I have spent all my Eid here in Bangalore. Since we are not much sugar loving family, I don't prepare sweets/halwas in bulk. I just manage the quantity that will be required to serve guests. I usually make sheer khurma, double ka meetha, rasmalai, gulab jamuns and china grass pudding. For lunch our special menu includes biryani, qorma, naan and shami kababs along with salads and raita. Being a food blogger, I keep trying different recipes, hence a different menu each Eid. For lunch, usually my husband's friends are invited, mostly bachelors and I invite my ladies group and kids for an evening snack. This way the whole day of Eid is busy in the kitchen and with guests. We do plan outings over the following weekend as school/offices here opens the very next day itself.

Eid Sweets
No Eid is complete without new dress and accessories. My Eid shopping is done with full enthu and my day starts with adorning the new dress and going for Eid prayer at 6 in the morning as the Eidgah  here is an hour drive from my home. After returning, we exchange Eid greetings to friends and families and I get Eidi (cash) both from my husband and my dad and that is the best thing about this Eid :P. We then do our breakfast which is mostly the sweets prepared along with some savory.

meri Eid ki khushi...
Well, that was pretty much about my way of Eid celebration. Let's hear from bloggers around the globe - how they celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr and what special dishes they make on this occasion.

Amina Khaleel - For Eid ul fitr, we prepare sheer khurma - a milk based dessert with vermicelli and dry fruits to serve after fajr prayer. We then make Kheema samosa or chicken macaroni for breakfast. For lunch we prepare mutton biryani, chicken fry, brinjal gravy and onion raita. We usually prepare two sweets basundi and gulab jamuns to serve our guests on Eid day.

Asiya Subhani - In Hyderabad, Eid-ul-fitr is celebrated with great joy and eid is incomplete without gatherings. Every muslim meets each other along with special delicacies made during this day. The special dishes that we make during eid is sheer korma and biryani. Eid is incomplete without sheer korma and biryani in Hyderabad. Some prefer to make chicken biryani, some make mutton biryani but Hyderabadi sheer khurma is a must in every household. Along with that we also make gulab jamun and double ka meetha and some savory items like boondi to serve the guests. Hope all of us have fun, enjoy this festival and greet each other and my dua for every muslim to be at peace and lead a prosperous life...

Fajeeda Ashik - Our Eid celebrations are very simple with family and friends.Morning after the eid prayers will have a very light breakfast like upma, appam stew or just idli and chutney. And after that will start the lunch preparation, lunch will be biryani and for dessert payasam. For lunch we will have around 10 to 15 guests. Kids will put mehendi. Evenings will go out to meet friends and family...This is our little eid celebrations...

Fareeha Ahmed - In our home, Eid is just not complete without the Sheer Kurma in the morning. We eat a date before going to the Eid prayer and after coming back, it is time for sheer kurma. Then for lunch, it is always mutton biryani, raita and dalcha. Rest of the items are pretty variable and for dessert, it is always dum ke seviyan. Can't imagine an Eid without these dishes.

Huma Kalim - In India, Eid festivities start with the sighting of moon. After iftar me and my cousins used to rush eagerly to the terrace competing who finds the moon first. Greeting were exchanged and the preps of eid would begin. Cleaning, changing the drapes and Menus for the next day would be finalized. Early morning we would wake up to the aromas of sheer khurma being prepared by Ammi. And then all the men would eat sheer khurma before leaving for prayers. We women and kids dressed in our best attire would gather in a family hall for our eid prayers lead by Ammi. All the men would be returning from prayers and greetings would be exchanged, demanding eidi (gifts or money) from elders. Guests mostly non Muslims would visit for greeting us eid Mubarak and plethora of dishes would be presented to them depending on food habits meaning vegetarian or non veg. In the afternoon entire family gathers for lunch which would be mutton samosa, naan and qalia (mutton korma), biryani, sheer khurma and one more dessert. The entire day would be spent in guests visiting us.

Lubna KareemEid is a three day affair at my house. Different recipes are made and served these three days. Younger ones are gifted with Edhie. The Eid day starts with early Morning Prayer, a light breakfast with dates is consumed on the Eid day. Men leave to mosque wearing new or clean clothes. Women perform namaz at home only. Upon returning men are greeted by the women at home and a special sweet called Sheer Khorma is served. The rest of the day is spent celebrating Eid with family members.

Niloufer Riyaz - Eid is celebrated with much zeal and before the Eid we make Raya cookies to distribute to neighbors and friends... The day of Eid starts as early as 4 in the morning with crispy medhu vada....then after prayer we have our food which is our typical Eid menu with parotta, idiyappam, curry. The special item we make is Roti jala (Malaysian lace pancakes) along with sweet saffron vattilappam.

Rafeeda AR - As Ramadan draws to the end and Eid gets closer, many households slowly start the preparation for the festivities. InShaAllah, we are looking forward to a wonderful Eid, with the whole family in place and I guess we are having it this way after many years, so you can imagine the excitement. Once we are done with our Eid prayers, we all gather at my aunt's place to gorge on ela adas, cutlets, continuous cups of tea and unlimited chatter. This is followed by quick trips to my cousin's place and then we come back to biriyani and some paal pizhinjathu. We also catch up on some sleep since the previous night is always hectic and we wake up really early to get going to the Eidgah, the big ground where the special Eid prayers happen. The first day of Eid is always within the four walls, with a lot of talking and giggling and it is normally the second day we move out, but since it is really hot this time, we will have to wait and see the plans.

Shabna Sherif -  Eid is the day of happiness and a day for family and friends to get together. It is also a time to prepare and enjoy delicious foods. Kids will be happy and excited on that day to wear new clothes and apply henna on their hands. Our Eid day starts with Fajr prayer followed by Eid prayer in the nearby masjid / Eidgah. Our Eid breakfast is usually idli with chicken/ mutton curry, a tradition which my husband never wants to break. The other food items served are malabar dishes like pathiri, neypathiri, ela ada and other snacks like pazhampori (banana fry), pazham nirachathu (stuffed plantain), dates fry etc. The lunch is always biryani (chicken/ mutton) with chicken fry, beef masala, salads, raita and pappadum and will be followed by desserts like puddings and semiya payasam. When we are in India, we normally visit our friends and families after lunch but here in Melbourne after lunch, all the families gather together in a regional park or a hall, where we all have different fun filled activities for kids and islamic lectures and games for adults.

Zareena Siraj - As you all are aware, Eid ul Fitr is celebrated to mark the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month where we observe fasting and offer prayers for the entire 30 days. The day of Eid starts with the food preparations and then we all gather for Eid Namaaz. Breafast is served after the Namaaz. In my household, all the cuisine is mostly South indian (Kerala) with dishes like Appam, Pathiri and Idiyappam, served with Mutton stew. Then we get on with the lunch preparations which is usually a new variety of mutton or chicken biryani accompanied by raita and another dish like chicken grilled. We end this scrumptious meal with a dessert made out of lentils called as "parippu payasam" or fruit custard. We all look forward to the holy month of Ramadan and Eid celebrations since this month brings in a lot of goodness in the family.

A hearty thanks to each one of you for sharing your joyous moments of Eid with me and my readers.

Ending this post with this cute little poem from my kid's Hindi text book...

"Eid mai khaayi khub sewaiyan,
khaayi khub mithayi.
Tees dino ke rozon ke baad,
Eid khushi ki aayi."

and an Eid Greeting Card he made in school last year....
