How to Select and Cut Pineapples
2:19 PM
Amaan will be having the last day of his Nursery tomorrow and then starts the long summer vacations. We have planned a short trip to our native and then will be back here again and I'm not sure how he is going to spend his time, as he gets easily bored at home. Probably this will be my last post before I travel and here I have shared in detail on how to select and cut Pineapples. Seriously, till date I never bought pineapples thinking of the hassles in cutting it and depended only on the canned ones. But once I got the hang of it, and it was so easy that I thought to share it here so that many of you who are like me can benefit from it......
- First make sure that you are purchasing the right pineapple. You can do this check by placing it on a flat surface, holding it with one hand and gently pulling the centre leaf. If it comes out easily, then the pineapple is ripe and perfect for your purchase. Also, it will have a strong, fresh pineapple smell. The leaf should be green and not dry or wilted
- Keep it in the fridge upside down for around 30 minutes so that the sugar is evenly distributed
- Then place it horizontally on a flat surface and chop both the ends about half an inch thickness. You can use the chopped leafy part for table decorations
- Then place it vertically and put the knife just behind one of the eyes as it runs vertically in the same line. Slice till the bottom. Repeat till all the skin is removed
- If any brown part is left, remove it with a peeler or knife
- Then again place it horizontally, and cut into round slices depending upon the thickness you prefer, may be half an inch or a bit more
- To remove the centre, just place each slice on a cutting board and using a knife make round cuts in the centre and remove
