Plain toor daal

Ingredients:

  • Toor daal - 1/2 cup, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Garlic cloves - 2
  • Red chilli - 1, deseeded and broken into two
  • Water - 2 cups

Method:
  • Pressure cook the daal with salt, turmeric and water until 1 whistle on high, then simmer it for 10 minutes
  • For tempering, take a ladle and heat oil
  • Add the cumin seeds and let it splutter
  • Add the garlic cloves and red chilli, leave it for a minute
  • Then add to the cooked daal
