Plain toor daal

- Toor daal - 1/2 cup, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Garlic cloves - 2
- Red chilli - 1, deseeded and broken into two
- Water - 2 cups
Method:
- Pressure cook the daal with salt, turmeric and water until 1 whistle on high, then simmer it for 10 minutes
- For tempering, take a ladle and heat oil
- Add the cumin seeds and let it splutter
- Add the garlic cloves and red chilli, leave it for a minute
- Then add to the cooked daal
